650,000 plastic balls will create a surreal midair environment in the Dupont Underground. Whimsical Invasion implicates a contradictory concept that is a passive and active spatial intrusion by the installation and visitors. The space will be invaded by the cloud and visitors will invade the cloud. The imagery and huge cloud will collide in the underground passage and invade the passage from somewhere outside. Visitors will be able to see, touch, and feel its movement from outside of the cloud. Visitors will create the movement by touching and pushing the cloud, both from the inside and outside. Minimum construction, such as nylon netting and steel pipe framing, will convert the dark underground space into a surreal immersive space.

The cloud will be generated by balls, nylon rope, and netting. The density of maximum random close packing of the sphere will be approximately 0.64. Based on this number, a volume of 8,800 cubic feet will be packed by 650,000 plastic balls. Tensile strength via nylon rope and netting will hold these plastic balls. The cloud will have an internal passage through which visitors can pass through the volume. Its pliable skin will allow transferring movements from inside to outside and from outside to inside.
